Very little. In fact, a DEXA spine scan delivers less than one tenth of the radiation you receive from a chest x-ray.

"Will you inject me with something before the x-ray."
No. DEXA exams don't require contrast injections.

"Will it hurt?"
No, and there are no special preparations or sedations associated with it.

"How should I prepare for the exam?"
Wear comfortable clothing, such as a sweat suit. Don't wear anything with metal zippers, buttons or buckles. Dressing this way will make it easier for you to be positioned on the machine.
